Massive cuts to education funding have left most California public schools with crowded classrooms and the barest of mandated programs. Here in San Carlos, however, we’ve long recognized that local support is the only thing we can count on to maintain our excellent schools. Fortunately, increased donations to SCEF last year kept much of the academic enrichment that make our district among the top 6% in the state. By working together, we can stay strong. After all, it’s for our kids.
In 2011-2012, the San Carlos Education Foundation will donate over $2.0 million to the San Carlos School District and CLC.
San Carlos School District
The San Carlos School District is comprised of six schools: Arundel, Brittan Acres, Central Middle, Heather, Tierra Linda Middle and White Oaks. The district intends to spend their $1,877,302 grant in the following way in 2011-2012:
CLC
Instead of a mix of program support and site-specific funds, CLC received a consolidated grant of $193,261 for the year from the San Carlos Education Foundation. This amount was calculated based on the number of students enrolled at CLC; it is consistent with the per-student combined grants given to the six schools in the San Carlos School District. CLC had 9.3% of total enrollment and received 9.3% of the annual SCEF disbursement.

In addition to broad support of district programs, SCEF also gave site-based grants to each school to support school-specific initiatives. These funds come from three restricted funds categories: Fund-a-Need, Teacher Development Grants, and the Principal’s/Directors’s Fund. Site-based grants are calculated based on the number of enrolled students.
CLC
Instead of a mix of program support and site-specific funds, CLC received a consolidated grant of $159,499 for the year from the San Carlos Education Foundation. This amount was calculated based on the number of students enrolled at CLC; it is consistent with the per-student combined grants given to the six schools in the San Carlos School District. CLC had 9.41% of total enrollment and received 9.41% of the annual SCEF disbursement.
